Trippie Redd has one of the most unique voices in rap, and his discography is remarkably diverse, spanning a wide range of styles and genres. His last studio album, A Love Letter to You 5, was released in 2023. Now, three years later, it marks the longest gap between official album releases in his career.
Despite his absence, Trippie still managed to maintain cultural relevance and anticipation for his next album, NDA. The album was constantly delayed, yet it officially released with 25 songs and a stacked feature list including Young Thug, Nine Vicious, Lil Wayne, and more. Going into this album, expectations were all over the place since we hadn’t received a Trippie Redd album in so long, and we didn’t know what direction he’d take.
And on this album it really shows. The album is all over the place stylistically, and there isn’t a sound that Trippie consistently sticks to throughout. Instead, Trippie is constantly adjusting his style to fit the featured artists when it should be the other way around. The album literally feels like a compilation project where Trippie Redd is the featured artist on his own songs. Out of 25 songs, 15 have features, while only 10 are solo Trippie songs.
It’s a shame too because Trippie outshines nearly every feature on this album, with only a few being substantial. The album’s best moments are constantly drowned out by the overwhelming number of features and the filler-heavy tracklist. “I Got Everything” is one of the hidden gems on the project, where Trippie delivers another catchy, melodic hit.
Some of his other solo songs like “V-12” and “Can’t Believe It” are also pretty interesting, but they’re still underwhelming compared to the rest of his discography. Overall, NDA doesn’t hold up to Trippie’s other work, from the unnecessary features and bland production to the painfully long tracklist. However, the album does set the stage for more Trippie projects, and hopefully we’ll get more interesting solo material in the coming months.
