After a very controversial release earlier this year with ADL, Yeat returns with a surprise EP titled COCOON after teasing a new era and new music for the last few months across social media and on tour. Some of Yeat’s greatest music in recent years has been found on his EPs, like DANGEROUS SUMMER and now COCOON. On these projects, he’s at his most confident, making music that feels true to his roots.
Yeat has an incredible way of reigniting his old sound and making it feel just as great as his older work. Songs like “IN2THAT” and “EARNED IT” are nearly identical to his older sound, but with a newer, more evolved addition to it. He also reunites with his longtime collaborator Trgc on the songs “COCOON” and “LUH BIRK,” which feels like a refreshing reinvention of the sound he delivered on fan-favorite projects like Up 2 Me and 4L.
Yeat has limitless potential as an artist, and he’s built an impressive and versatile discography with cult-classic albums as well as experimental and left-field projects like ADL and 2093. However, Yeat’s best work comes when he goes back to his roots because that sound is undeniably his. It’s unique, distinct, and very difficult for others to replicate. Hopefully, Yeat sticks with this sound more because it’s probably the best music we’ve heard from him all year.
