The Influence of 2hollis

2hollis might be one of the most quitely important artists in the modern underground. Before he came onto the scene, trap and electronic music rarely brushed up against each other except for the occasional remix or one-off collabs. 2hollis came along and brought the complex production of EDM to trap without losing the aggression or emotion that makes rap what it is.

You can hear his influence everywhere if your listening closely. Many new artists like Jane remover and Lucy Bedroque are building on the foundation that he laid. It’s easy to say that the rage scene probably wouldn’t be where it is today if it wasn’t for him. He popularized unique synths and a cinematic festival atmosphere in underground rap that wasn’t so popular before.

What makes 2hollis special is that as a producer himself, he was able to inspire new and old producers to not have to pick in between the moshpit and the dance floor. A lot of his songs are heavily reliant on the production, with some songs like “3” even being standalone instrumentals. This shines a lot more light on the production side of things and gives more flexibility for producers to experiment and still be able to appeal to a wide audience.

Now, we’re seeing a whole new generation of artists and producers run with this idea. The fusion of EDM and rap is no longer rare or unusual, it’s becoming it’s own culture. 2hollis made it more accessible to create this type of music, and indirectly put the spotlight on tons of new and creative people.
